Preparing Your Home for Auction
September 08, 2014

If you are preparing your home for a real estate auction, some of the same guidelines come into play as if you were selling your home through a traditional real estate broker.  While real estate auctions are typically sold as-is, it is still important to do what you can to make your property seem inviting to interested bidders.  Use some of the following tips to prepare your home for auction.

Declutter Your Home
Let’s face it; no one wants to buy your home if it is jam packed with all sorts of clutter from years gone by.  Take some time to get rid of any possible clutter and use it as an opportunity to donate some of your unused items to charity.  You can also rent a portable storage container that can be used to store some of your larger pieces of furniture before your home is sold.

Spruce Up The Yard
When you are selling your home at a real estate auction, you do not need to completely transform the exterior of your home, but it is important to make it look presentable.  Make sure to cut your grass and trim back any overgrown shrubs to make your home look inviting.  Feel free to plant a few inexpensive flowers if you would like to really give the outside of your home a warm look and feel.

Get Rid Of Pesky Smells
If you have pets or live in an older home, you may have become used to certain smells in your home.  These smells can be a real turn off for potential buyers and should be dealt with before putting your home up for auction.  Open the windows and blinds and make sure that ample fresh air is able to flow into your home to help get rid of stale and musty smells.
